PLR vs. Free Reprint Articles: Which is Best?

PLR vs. Free Reprint Articles: Which is Best?
by Nicole Dean

Content is always in high demand. Right now the focus seems to be on Private Label Rights (or PLR) articles. PLR articles are pre-written and sold in packages to online businesses looking for content. The big selling points of PLR articles are that you may edit the articles and that there is no author bio required (so they don’t have any outbound links).

Compare PLR articles to free reprint articles. Free reprint articles from places like ezinearticles.com or freeaffiliatearticles.com are written by people who have something they’d like to share. (Or, they are sometimes written by people just publishing junk, in the hopes that they’ll get some incoming links. But, good article directories will delete those, so we’ll focus on the good ones here.)

So, which is better? Honestly, each has its place. Sometimes you’ll find an excellent free reprint article that you’ll want to share with your readers and you won’t mind a bit having an outbound link, especially if there is an affiliate program associated with it. The free reprint article added value to your readers, and you didn’t have to write the article. That’s what free reprint articles are all about.

Other times you’ll already have an idea in mind for a topic and you’ll just want a boost getting that section of your website done. If you run across a high quality PLR package on that niche, you’re set to go.

So, how do you know which PLR service or membership to choose? Here are some guidelines to follow:

1. Some PLR sites offer a monthly membership where you receive a grab-bag of articles – on any topic. If you already know what you need, this may be a waste of money. Other PLR sites will list topics and you can buy the articles in a shopping cart. That ensures you receive the articles you need when you need them.

2. Are the articles written by professional writers with experience? Or are they outsourced to the cheapest overseas help they can find – no matter the quality? If the articles are going to be a reflection of your business, you’ll want to ensure that the articles are well-written.

3. Who’s running this thing? Is the PLR site run by someone who knows about content or someone who thinks they can ride the content wave and make a quick buck? Make sure you’re hitching your wagon to someone who knows what they’re doing.

Those are just a few tips to keep you from wasting money on a PLR site that you can’t use. Continue to use free reprint articles, but look into PLR articles as well. They can both benefit your website and your business.

The Real K.E.Y. To E-Book Success

Posted by qpen on August 16, 2010

There must be some reason why certain ebook writers are
successful and others are not.

In other words, why do some authors make high six-figure
incomes (even seven-figures!) and others barely make enough
to cover their hosting fees?

There must be some reason for the difference in level of
success, right?

There is.

In fact, there are three “reasons” why that I want to share
with you now. I’ve used the word “K.E.Y.” as an acronym to
reveal these three elements of successful ebook publishing.

1. K = KEEP it concise.

One of the biggest mistakes ebook writers make is starting
their project with the idea in mind that their ebook must
be a certain number of pages in length.

That is, they assume the ebook should be 50 pages or 100
pages or even 200 pages in order to be desirable to
consumers.

Wrong. Ding. Thanks for playing.

Much more important than QUANTITY is QUALITY. Almost every
potential customer in your target market is considerably
more interested in learning something useful than they are
reading a bunch of commentary that has little or no real
value to them.

The ability to concisely (yet comprehensively) share
content that is practical is a must if you want to be
successful in the information business. No fluff. No
filler. No fat. Just the meat.

That’s what consumers want. Especially today in our fast-
paced, instant, I-want-it-now society.

And chances are you are much more likely to write a 30 page
manual and get it done than you are to slave over trying to
measure up to a 200 page masterpiece.

Your first key to success is “keep it concise”. Share what
you need to share in the least amount of pages as possible.
It doesn’t have to be the great American novel. This isn’t
Hemingway.

2. E = ENJOY yourself.

I simply must mention that if you enjoy your “work” then
you are exponentially more likely to complete your ebooks
than those who reluctantly or grudgingly write.

Seriously, don’t underestimate what I’m saying here.
You’ll get much more done as a writer by having fun with
your subject matter.

That’s the beauty of information publishing. YOU get to
pick the topic. A topic of interest – of passion – to you
as the author. Something you find enjoyable, even
exhilarating.

To be sure, you want to choose topics that are in demand
and have a ready-made audience awaiting who are willing to
purchase them. But, at the same time, you can look for
those marketable topics that appeal to your interests and
expertise.

I don’t care how “profitable” a subject may be, I’d never
take it on as a project of mine unless I got some sense of
satisfaction or enjoyment in writing about it.

Instead, look for those things that you are already talking
about anyway. And then write what you’ve been talking
about.

3. Y = YIELD results.

Finally, I must exhort you to “yield results”. That is,
you simply must stick to it and finish the job.

I cannot tell you how many people that I’ve met online who
struggle with the affliction “short-of-the-finish-line-it
is”.

They begin running the race with gusto. They pick their
topic like it was a Nike outfit. They outline their ebook
like they just heard the starting gun fire. They come up
with ideas to include in their work like they were
sprinting down the track.

And when they round the first corner, they start slowing
down. Before they know it, they’re up in the stands
watching others cross the finish line.

That’s why I am adamant about telling you the golden rule
of ebook content: Never start something you can’t finish
in 30 days.

With any new ebook you are planning on writing, choose the
topic and outline it in such a way that you can complete
the content within one calendar month. Anything that goes
beyond that period of time is likely going to be discarded
somewhere past the starting gate and before the finish
line.

It’s important that you set for your goal a reasonable,
reachable amount of pages for your ebook ... such as 30
pages. Then, divide that goal number of pages into your 30
days. In this example, it would mean writing just ONE page
per day (very realistic!) for 30 days and your ebook will
be completed.

Victory! The finish line!

Certainly there are a wide variety of other “keys” to being
successful as an ebook writer (choosing the right topics,
learning to outline well, brainstorming ideas, marketing,
etc.) but these three form a solid foundation for you to
build upon as you continue to learn more about information
publishing.

K = KEEP it concise.
E = ENJOY yourself.
Y = YIELD results.

See you on your victory lap!

Effective Measures To Help You Stay Away From Plagiarism

Posted by Mary Taylor on August 10, 2010

Plagiarism is a very serious offence that can even lead to one being discontinued from many academic institutions. Plagiarism basically means the duplication of another person’s work without acknowledging it.

Plagiarism can terminate your academic career regardless of whether it is intentional whereby you actually set out to copy other people’s work or accidental whereby you use somebody’s work without your knowledge.

The following are a few ways to pass up plagiarism:

Stating your sources might sound very basic. You can blame it either on unawareness or slothfulness but you will be surprised at the number of students who simply do not refer to their sources.

Time after time, students are just so happy to finally finish doing a paper that they forget to mention the sources at the closing stages. Other times, a student might not know that he has to mention the source when he uses somebody else’s work.

You need to carefully comb through your paper after you write it down as it is very easy for references from other works to find their way into the paper.

If you come across words or sentences that you have reason to believe were copied from another source; either knowingly or without thinking, erase them without delay from the paper as there is no distinction between deliberate or not deliberate plagiarism.

You should make use of any rephrased words just as they are on paper without being tempted to replace even one letter from the original work. Always finish it with quotes as well as mention your sources either at the end or in-line.

It is easy to avoid plagiarism when you are not only familiar with the rules to follow but also revise your paper thoroughly as the consequence for not doing so could be terrible. Always scrutinize your paper carefully before handing it in.

Aside from plagiarism, the writer additionally frequently shares knowledge regarding Movies Capital reviews and Cheat Your Way Thin.

Where To Find Book Software

Posted by James Williamson on June 26, 2010

The book software will help you to write and edit your book. This special software is designed for the writers to help to keep the track of their work as well as helping them to go through the total process; from the starting of the book to publish it.

First of all, you need to know that there are many scams in the online business and they will try to attract you with interesting advertisements. They will tell you that their product is the best in the market and you will be benefitted by this product more than anything else. You need to be careful about this type of frauds and should not take a decision without any judgment.

To be more specific, you can make the query by specific topic. For example, you can look for free software. Some of the sites offer free service and you can take them if you want. But the better software are usually are not free and you have to pay for them. So you can make a search within your budget and see what fits.

For eBooks, the software can help with the common online writing guideline. They can compile the HTML format to convert it into an exe file or a text file. They can also help you to prepare your book for online publishing. Like normal book software, the eBook software can help you to edit the book.

If you are confused about the quality of the book, you can look for the reviews in the internet and find out which one is the most popular by the users. You can mention that in your search too and that will give you the result based on the popularity, number of download and reviews.

If you are an aspiring author, then you should check out print on demand services and book software to get your book published.

Posted by Annie Jennings on

If you own a business or have written a book, you’ll want to get out into the world and tell someone about your work and yourself. A great way is to land media placements on radio, TV, in magazines and newspapers and on the internet. But the first question is, how do you get booked on these media outlets, is it as easy as it looks? It can be if you know the publicity tips that get you in the door. You don’t have to be a publicist to land impressive media placements and get exposure for yourself, your book or your business

First things first, before you begin to contact the media, create your press release and publicity tools. Have them ready as the media will ask you to send your materials right away if they have an interest in you. You will need a press release that outlines the information you will share for radio and TV, a media kits and a demo video especially for national TV. Be ready to send the info right away because if you delay, you will lose the advantage of having the interest of the media. Always present a professional image to the media and that means being prepared before you begin so you do not delay when the media wants to go to the next step.

Have short and long term publicity goals. You will need to have resources to find the names of the producers and bookers and contact information. Targeting the right media contact will greatly increase your chances of getting booked. If your goal is to be on OPRAH within the year, you have a lot of work to do. You’ll want to get booked on lots of media that includes radio and TV to gain experience, help you define your topic and create national expert status for yourself. Pitch the smaller radio shows first and then move onto the bigger stations in the bigger markets. Use the same strategy with TV and book yourself first on the local/regional stations.

If newspapers and magazines are on your publicity goal list, start to follow these periodicals. Learn about the content and style and who writes in your expertise. Become familiar with what they have covered so you are pitching a fresh and “next level” article or story idea. When promoting your book or yourself, expect to make about 50 pitch calls before feeling comfortable with the content, style, language and tonality.

You never want to look like a beginner as the media can spot this and it is not in their best interests to book someone who is uncertain or not confident in their skills. Confidence shows. If you know you are good you will naturally speak with a strong voice and will not appear shy or unqualified. This takes time, so give yourself the time to learn these presentation skills. You don’t want to sound afraid when you pitch as this marks you as a amateur and the media will hesitate in working with you as you are untested. The media needs rock solid, experienced experts to comment on stories. “Telling me to ‘Be clear,’ ” writes Joseph M. Williams in Style: Toward Clarity and Grace, “is like telling me to ‘Hit the ball squarely.’ I know that. What I don’t know is how to do it.” If you are ever going to know how to write clearly, it will be after reading Williams’ book, which is a rigorous examination of–and lesson in–the elements of fine writing. The Irrelevancy Of Books For Research

Posted by Jim Mavish on March 29, 2010

More and more people are choosing the internet as a source for information over books. This has been happening for some time already.

Instead of heading to the local library for information, as in days past, many people are now just turning on their computers from the comforts of home. They are usually pleased with the information they can find on the internet, from a given website. Does this shift in the gaining of information mean the end of books?

In my opinion, no it does not. The fact of the matter is that there are just too many academics who rely heavily upon books, in their studies and chosen careers, to let books die out overnight.

If you ask any university or college student, they will tell you that their teachers want reliable sources for the information used. If you told one of these teachers that your source was a random website they would not be pleased.

Anyone out there can own a website and claim they are an expert on a topic. With a little bit of luck, a bit of research, and possibly a payment, they can even make their website come up as one of the top links in a Google search on the topic.

The site may look nice, and they may sound like they know what they are talking about, but who is to say that they really do? Websites are largely unregulated and it is not easy to tell what has been fact checked.

Books, while not infallible, are generally written by accredited experts in the field. Their facts have been checked and reviewed, often many times. With a book it is easier to weed out the good from the bad, and direct other people to the good resources.

For these reasons, as well as the people who, like myself, just love the feel of a good novel between their hands, I do not think books will be forgotten any time soon. As a book person, my only hope is for the future generations, that they may grow to appreciate the importance of books, as many of us already do.

The writer additionally often blogs regarding things such as gourmet popcorn tins and popcorn machine parts.

There are many books available that will guide the academic to substantive academic writing. However, approximately 85% of publications are written by 15% of the academic population. Many academics experience the writing process as very difficult and painful, and give up writing rather than trying to surmount the obstacles. Two Roads Diverged: Understanding Traditional and Self-Publishing Differences

Posted by Todd Rutherford on March 6, 2010

Cookbooks have emerged as a very popular book choice in recent years. With the emergence of cable channels for cooking, alongside a growing interest in all things culinary in the country, cookbooks have been flying off the shelves in recent years. However, they are a very special form of book writing, and they have their own special requirements.

The traditional publishing path of the past has been described similarly by many sources. Write a book, send query letter and/or book proposal to agents, get picked up by an agent, get sold by agent to a small-to-medium-size publisher, pray that your book takes off and garners attention from a big publisher who pays you a six-figure advance in return for the rights to your book.

Nathan Bransford, a literary agent with Curtis Brown, discusses going from small presses to big publishers. I agree with many of his points on the difficulties of being recognized by a big publisher. His advice is very similar to my premise, if your book is really good, well edited, designed, printed, distributed, and promoted, it will succeed.

2. Understand the tradeoffs between narrow and broad focus: In recent years, there has been a trend in non-fiction, referred to as the “noun” books. These are books written about very narrow and commonly found “things” in our lives, such as salt, coal, and water. This would be thought of as a narrow focus, as opposed to books that cover the subject of say war, work, and economics. Narrow-focused books typically require a lot of highly detailed research. They offer depth. Broader- focused books, on the other hand, offer breadth, and sacrifice some of the details in the process.

Photographs are a huge component of cookbooks. Not only to do they help the reader to visualize how a recipe is supposed to look when complete, they are inspiring and often beautiful to look at when done well.

4. Read: The writing of great non-fiction is about 10% writing, and 90% researching, thinking, and reading other works. If you follow the first tip above, then this part will be the labor of love in the process of writing your non-fiction book.

Do You Have A Book Inside You Waiting To Come Out?

Posted by Dr. Jay Polmar on February 9, 2010

It’s amazing. I’ve been writing books for years, and selling them online for nearly 15 years, and previously only in print through selling foreign licenses, or printing them myself, advertising them, and selling them either online or in classes I taught.

Now there is a better way. If you have something you want to say, you can put it in print, or sell it online and there is no difficult about doing that. If you don’t know where to start, there are writing coaches that can give you a hand by discussing topics, subjects, and what you are passionate about.

Just tell a provider of services what you want to say, and they’ll write it for you. There is a little company we know of that does that for English writers, www.lifeimprovementbooks.com. And another for Spanish writers, www.ipublicidades.com . And they have done work for several authors around the world for several years. They have a team of writers in English, Spanish, and French that can help you tell your story. Many companies exist to help beginning authors, and the ones that help that most are the ones who ‘draw out’ what you want to tell your readers easily.

If you’ve already created a draft of your book, you are more than half the way there. The next step involves editing, proofreading, refining, and creating a proper layout for book printing.

With these professional services type of company, the layout of your own book is relatively inexpensive, takes only a few days, and can be delivered ready to print to the printer of your choice. Don’t know which printer to use? Or, only need a few copies, or just one copy of a special book for a friend – not a problem. Don’t know what size to print. Here’s a general rule of thumb: Workbooks for workshops, A4 or 8.5″ x 11″, Executive paperback of technical value 7″ x 10″, Highest Quality Paperback for Self-Help or Fiction 6″x9″, Mass market paperback 5.5″ x 8.5″ or smaller. And yes, you can get just ONE copy printed.

In today’s book publishing industry, if you need a private edition for your family tree and history for 10 members – not a problem. If you are going to teach a private class to 4 students and you need a 500 page manual – not a problem. If you want to sell one book at a time from your website, to a person interested in it in Timbuktu – not a problem.

And if you want your book put on Amazon.com for sale – or Amazon Kindle books – also not a problem. The world is changing and the book printing and distribution industry as well. And if you just want one copy for the world to remember you by, just sign it and put it in your time capsule – not a problem.

From writing, to editing, proofing, translating, typesetting, printing books, distributing online, or through Amazon – the world has changed. And the author inside of your that may have been restricted by past technological restrictions has been, at last, set free to share his or her wisdom with the rest of the world, one copy at a time.

Each person has their own book hidden inside of them. Tell your own story – without knowing how to type.

How To Get Local Publicity To Promote Your Book

Posted by Annie M. Jennings on January 24, 2010

There are many book titles that you see on the shelves of bookstores and in libraries. They may have some of the best information, or tell the best stories that have ever been written. However, if the author was not marketed by a well known publisher or did not have the tools and ideas to show that book promotion and publicity market your book.

Hopefully, you chose a topic that has mass appeal. If you did, then there are numerous methods to employ to get you the exposure you need to start selling books. You will need to use the same creativity that was used in composing your book, to market it and to get publicity, so people can find it. Your most effective method will be to do some guerrilla marketing and take it to the streets, yourself. This may sound a little scary, but if done correctly, you will be amazed at the results.

Listen to the radio in your local market. You will likely find at least one station that has some talk show host that discusses similar topics as what you have written about. In every case, these hosts are always interested in having entertaining guests on their shows. It helps them develop a larger audience and you will get some good exposure. They are easy to contact and if you are local and have a good story to tell, they will love having you on their program.

The same process goes for local television. All stations are seeking a good story, especially if the person is from the local area. They are interested and usually very easy to work with and with all of the local programming, they are always looking for interesting people that have done something out of the ordinary.

Head down to your local bookstore. Everyone likes to sponsor an event. A book signing falls into this category. In some cases they may let you have a short discussion group explaining the topic and then have the opportunity to sign and sell some copies. It is possible that they will let you put up some posters and advertise your upcoming visit, so be sure to plan ahead. The idea of having a local author is usually good press, so you should contact all of the local newspapers as well.

Local Networking meetings can be a great place to promote your book. Most of the people there are self employed and have an interest in supporting others in the same field. Be sure to have fliers and business cards to pass out and be sure to speak with everyone there. You may find someone that has contacts with the media, which can also help you get to the larger audiences.

All of these ideas necessitate you having a personality! The more of you that you can show in your interviews, personal meetings and book signings, the more people will relate to you and your book. If you do not think that you are capable of handling these ideas, knowing that if they work in one city they will do the same in others, you can revert to a more passive marketing approach. The Internet is the largest marketing opportunity on the planet. However, by creating a blog or launching a website can be costly and time consuming. This is not to say that this is a bad thing to do, but even if you create a wonderful site, but you do not know how to market it, you and your book will likely spend eternity in cyberspace with very few sales.

Lastly, if you are not a gregarious person and find these suggestions a tad scary, you can resort to just using the Internet. You can start a blog or launch a website to promote you and the book, but this can be more costly, time consuming and still will not guarantee that people find you. Unless you have been published by a known publishing house, your personal contact will be the most successful to get your product into circulation. Just as when you composed your work of art, spend some quality time to promote it. You will find that personal contact will be a great way to get you selling copies, meeting the readers and earning money, while sharing your experiences.
