This article on the 10 (no, 11… yes, 11) tips for newbies is not written from the catbird seat point of view of the article host or database manager. Rather it is by and from the perspective of an author who remembers the early misgivings. It is written especially for the beginning article writer. The Tennessee Mountain Man has written and submitted hundreds of articles for publication to thousands of article hosts and database managers and still finds Article Writing his nemesis.
1. Necessity vs Desire:
Articles and Blogs are necessary in today’s scheme of search engine indexing. Not what the newbie wants to hear. Just remember what the Bible says, “there has nothing over taken you that is not common to man”. That’s right! All of us hate article and Blog writing at times, and some of us dread the journey to pen and paper (or keyboard as the case may be) all the time. Many a webmaster would call them “a necessary evil” as they are not generally anyone’s best liked house keeping chores.
2. Just Start, It Gets Easier:
First it is sometimes difficult to get a subject or theme and to get the first couple of lines scribbled down. The Tennessee Mountain Man knows authors who literally get sick thinking about the process. Lighten up. Once an author has a starting point and gets passed the initial thoughts, article and Blog writing usually goes fairly smoothly.
The main thing is that you get started. Pick a subject you know something about and just start. You will be pleasantly surprised at just how easily ideasflow. Don’t assume everyone knows what you know. They don’t. Will Rogers once said, “all men are ignorant, just on different subjects”. And, so it is!
3. Good vs Perfection:
Your old English comp professor is not looking over your shoulder. This paper does not have to be perfect. That is not to say it does not have to be on point or to say that it does not have to be correct. It does or at least it should be. But, perfection is not the goal and is, in fact, seldom possible. Too much detail and you run the risk of losing your reader on several levels. Too long and most readers simply don’t have the time or interest to wade through the material regardless of how important it is.
4. Blog Length vs Article Length:
Most publishers want a minimum of six hundred (600) words per article – some will let you slide with four hundred (400) words. Blogs can be much smaller. Blogs can and maybe should support appropriate pictures and embedded links.
Just don’t over do it. Too gaudy or too slow to load and you have wasted your time, ticked off a potential reader, and probably upset a host who can ban you from their publications. Articles, on the other hand, typically cannot carry these extra touches according to the requirements of most publishers.
5. Format:
Prepare your article in American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) format. There are many tools from which to choose to get the job done. A search for ‘free ASCII editor’ or for ‘free plain text editors’ will provide one with a multitude of free options. Word Press is a popular choice. If all else fails simply use notepad to turn out your masterpiece.
6. Spelling and Grammar:
Once you have your article or Blog run it through a good spell checker and a good grammar checker. Microsoft Word works well for these purposes. Just don’t use the MS Word copy for publication of your article. Rather use it’s suggestions to make any necessary corrections to your plain text copy. The MS Word copy will work for Blogs although the Computerman prefers other editors.

7. Publish and Announce:
Once your Blog is ready you may want to use some automatic tools to publish and announce it. First do a search for Blog hosts and select those which best suit your needs. Join one or more and publish your Blog there. Then search for Blog announcers and rss announcers and use them to get your Blog noticed.
Now that you have that out of the way find an article wizard that will post your Articles to free publishers. You can post them one at a time by hand if you are really bored and have absolutely nothing else in life to do. Using an automatic poster you can publish to hundreds of hosts in an hour or so. The only way to go.
8. Patience:
Now, have some patience. Here is where you lose control. Many of the men and women who host articles are timely and your articles will be reviewed within twenty-four (24) to forty-eight (48) hours. But, many others will be days and weeks down the road therefore never date an article – a sure way to get rejected.
9. Rejection – “sorry your article has been declined”:
Be prepared for most hosts to reject your articles. Do not take it personally. It usually has little to do with you or your article.
Some databases routinely reject articles for spelling errors when there are none or where there is more than way to spell a word. And, just as in any other endeavor some hosts are simply too lazy and get so far behind, the easiest and fastest thing to do (and perhaps the only alternative) is to reject everything. You will learn who these are over time.
Then there are those who run your articles through the sausage grinder and if they find certain words, irrespective of how they are used, your article gets no farther. These are the people who can’t publish the Holy Bible because it contains words that offend them or their readers. Don’t worry about these folks who are so heavenly minded they are of no earthly use.
Remember, just as in everything else in life, for every rule there is an exception
10. Keep the faith, and keep cranking out articles:
Since most authors, especially newbies, prepare only one copy of an article against the advice of most seasoned authors it is important that the newbie keep his chin up – keep the faith. That will be easier as more and more of your articles are accepted and published driving visitors to your website while creating those all important back links.
It is not necessary that every host to accept everything submitted to them. After one or two hosts publish your article on any given subject, the search engines tend to penalize you anyway by ignoring additional postings. This is close to spamming and while it could help someone find you, it probably won’t. It is not necessarily, the more the merrier. The additional listings will not increase your page rankings or links reported by the search engines. It is more important to get published by hosts with the highest Google page rank possible.
Now, one BONUS TIP for you: Along with “the rejection slip” will usually come a suggestion on how to “fix” your article and a request that you resubmit it. Don’t waste your time. While trying comply with one database manager’s request you could have written a new article from which you get much more punch. Enough publishers will pick your article up so move on and save yourself some time and heartburn.

Writing articles as I am sure many of you know is a very common way of exploding the amount of back links that you have heading to your site. In hypothesis, the more of these back links we are able to obtain, the more hits our site should experience. There are however some very important things to take into consideration when writing and submitting your articles as you do not want to be blowing away your time and you do not want your web site to get dismissed by the major search engines or put in some sort of sandbox.
The first thing to remember is that Rome was not built in a day. What I mean is if you have a new website, about for example hair loss, you may want to reach the top ten in Google for your keywords within say six months. You hear that one way to do this is by building up good number of backward links to this hair site. You think that the more the merrier and start pounding out one article after the other and are very proud of yourself after the first month because you were able to write fifty articles all pointing to your new hair website.
I believe this approach to be totally wrong. The weight loss websites which are in the top ten of Google have probably been around for quite a number of years and will without doubt have a number of quality back links. If your site sticks around for a long time and you continue to build up its back links it will go higher and higher in the search engines over time.
The one thing you do not want to do is to raise any red flags with the search engines. A new site which has eight hundred backward links after one month could raise this red flag. From what I have read, everybody seems to have a different opinion on this subject. My opinion is that it is better to be safe than sorry, therefore why take the risk? It would be good however if the major search engines could clarify their position on the subject, but lets face it, that is never going to happen.

Do you have an idea rolling around in your head? Would you like to know how to start an internet business? It is actually very easy, and something you can work on today.
I have started a number of businesses and even had the privilege of coaching others, and for each of these, I have used article marketing. The reason why is because you can easily and quickly get high search engine rankings from your articles, and these rankings will propel your business into the spotlight on the internet. So let’s talk about why articles work.
The first reason they work is because you submit them to an authority site. When you submit to article directories like Ezine articles, Article Snatch, or Articlesbase, many times your article will get ranked in Google for your particular keyword right away. Usually within weeks. So write a 300-700 article with a resource box that points back to your website, and use the authority of these sites to build your reputation as an expert in the field.
Articles can also generate direct traffic to your website. Lots of people with blogs and websites pick up articles from these directories and post them. For example, pretend you have a website about dogs. Other people with related sites like puppies.com, dogs and more dogs.com, or a dog blog will come and get your article. They post it on their site with your resource box, and then when people read their blog, you get free advertising. Their readers click on the link to your site, and voila! You just got free and easy traffic.
The third reason they work is because of backward links. A backward link is like a vote. Many times my pages and my interior pages show up in Google because lots of other people have posted my articles to their sites. For each one of these, I get a backward link, and as I start to amass backward links, I rank higher and higher in Google.
Getting on the first page of the search results for your keyword and staying there are two different things. There are lots of other people competing to be on the first two pages, and the competition is fierce. Article marketing can be the best tool to keep you on top.

One of the oldest yet still more effective techniques in driving targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers is information-based marketing. This is why article writing, submissions and publications are at an all-time high.
There are many tools that you can use to make the process of distributing your articles easier. However, although this is invaluable in getting your article exposed to more sites, there are common mistakes that some people make before submitting their articles to directories.
Let us take a look at the more common mistakes made in 3 key areas:
1) Confusing the reason to promote articles with the reason to write them.
In article writing, the main benefits of you promoting them is branding, lead generation and promotion, which are all part of your optimization efforts.
However, there is one reason why you write articles, and that is to inform your audience about a subject. It is greatly important that your article is based upon this fact, or else you stand to fail in the promotional benefits as outlined above.

2) Failing to realize and maximize the promotional opportunities of article marketing.
You will more than likely already know that your article can generate links back to your site from the article directories themselves, and also from any sites who publish your article from these directories. However, did you know that you can attract more visitors and better search engine results from the same article?
The first step to achieving this is to provide relevant keywords at strategic places in the article. However, do not overdo this. A good benchmark is to aim for between a ten to fifteen percent keyword density. You shouldn’t just aim for your article to be accepted by article directories, but should ultimately aim for it to be used by publishers who scour the directories for website content. You should not underestimate the potential that this can have on your promotional efforts, as many of these publishers may have hundreds or thousands of regular visitors who could then view your article.
Start out by having a plan of what you want achieved and make sure that you reach your targets. It is important to do this so that you can reap the maximum benefits of every article that you write.
3) Creating articles with content that does not help your readers.
Maybe your only plan is to create an article and get links back from article directories, and that any visitor that you may get from this is fine.
Well you may need to think again. Many article directories clamp down on the amount of articles that they accept that are simply not up to standard. And even if a poorly written, uninformative article does make it into the article sites, then the potential of being picked up by webmasters seeking quality content is certainly lost.
The benefits of one publisher with a hundred thousand website visitors picking up your article should be enough incentive for you to write an informative article. This is by no means impossible, and you may find that this value is conservative in what you may achieve from a number of publishers running your article on their site.
Researching into a topic that is sought after is important. There may be many readers of this article who will feel that this information is all well and good but feel that they cannot write an article well, or may not know enough about a certain subject to write an article. This is by no means a dead-end. There are many places where you can research into a topic, or hiring a writer might be an option worth considering.
The choice really is yours on how dedicated you are in increasing the exposure of your article, and consequently your website. On a basic level you can choose to gain a few back links from article directories, or with a little more effort you can enjoy massive exposure from providing quality content.

Is Unique Article Review Still Effective? Obviously I think so because I am still using it as a mainstay for my article marketing and article syndication. But the question comes up because some people are having difficulty getting the same kind of positive and lasting results.
If you have heard that spinning is no longer acceptable by search engines that is not really accurate. Bad spinning has never been accepted by search engines and lousy articles do not rank well either. Google does appreciate the good quality content and fresh perspective and that comes from good spinning.
How long does the interest in your article continue to send your site backlinks? Well, that is going to depend on many factors. The frequency with which you add fresh content to your website had an effect overall. If this seems to be the case for your site, there are several ways to restore the flow of links or fix the situation. It has not been the case for most of my sites and articles.
Even if it is true that all or nearly all syndication services have some sort of footprint these days that search engines can identify, there are ways to work around this. Actually in some cases the footprint is dead obvious. When all of the articles have the same size, structure, number of paragraphs or the number of words, that is very conspicuous. You really need to vary your anchor text and stop using that same old static hyperlink in every article you write. Because you can rotate multiple resource boxes for each article there really is no excuse for using the same old identical resource box all the time.
Don’t kid yourself. There is more to this program than just a quick submit and forget your article. Take the time to learn how to use some of its additional features to improve you traffic results.
For one thing, it is simple enough for you to vary your anchor text and keywords and urls for your articles. Another way you can expand your online presence and improve traffic is to make some additional sites in good niches that you can link to from your articles.

You already know that your articles will be sent to many sites and result in direct traffic. Send the direct traffic to your hubs, raise their ranking and they will continue to direct traffic to your main site long after your article has been dispersed.
